I never really think of the Toronto International Film Festival as a go-to fashion event. For sure, some good fashion moments happen at TIFF, but for the most part, TIFF is about the movies, which is as it should be. I doubt many celebrities are like, “I need to find a great dress for TIFF!” Which is my explanation for these Anne Hathaway photos. Anne attended the premiere of her new film, Colossal. This is what she wore – a Rodarte Fall 2016 look. Hathaway doesn’t work with Rachel Zoe as her stylist anymore, but I’m sure Anne either has a new stylist or she just speaks directly to designers at this point. I wonder how this came about – did she just call up Rodarte and ask for one of the weirdest looks? Like, there are so many different strange parts all thrown together, the floral midsection, the lace bust and sleeves, the gold bejeweled trim, the tiered skirt. Just pick one design and do that for the whole dress, maybe?
As for Anne’s film, Colossal, it sounds like a huge trip. Vulture tried to explain it – it’s about a woman (Anne) who gets drunk and in her drunken state, she turns into a giant monster who destroys Seoul, South Korea. Seriously, that’s the plot.
What else? Anne chatted with People Mag about her “post-baby body.” Anne has been talking about that since she gave birth in March – she seems to be doing everything at her own pace, which is totally fine and normal, but I would imagine that living in LA and the pressures of being “red carpet ready” at all times is probably pretty rough. Anne told People:
“I think shape is an ongoing thing in everybody’s life. So, I’m not trying to recapture something that was. I’m going with what it is now. Some things I guess are the same as they were, and other things are a little bit different. I’m just so proud of what the changes signify. So, there’s no rush to do anything. I’m so happy being here. I find that my workout is really different now because I gave birth. I feel like doing burpees now after having a baby is zero big deal.”
The fact that a woman who just gave birth five or six months ago even feels the need to DO burpees says something about the demands we put on women to “get back” their body. I hope Anne just does what makes her comfortable. And I hope she doesn’t get 20 million questions about her body. Enough. But do ask her about the dress. The dress is awful.
